Skin Deep: The Battle Over Morgellons

An eye opening documentary, "Skin Deep: The Battle Over Morgellons," explores perhaps one of the most mysterious skin diseases, Morgellons. With the skincare industry booming, and a collective eye on the mental health industry, the film is timely and informative. The big debate behind this hard-to-understand disease, Morgellons, is whether it is a physical or psychological syndrome. With a possible link to Lyme disease patients claim their skin to be irritated and many doctors believe that the irritation is actually psychological. "Skin Deep" is interesting and compelling as nurses, doctors, victims and patients chime in presenting research and their own beliefs regarding this rare disease. Who is delusional, the patients experiencing this disease or the doctors that can't find anything to back a skin disease?

Limerence

“Limerence" is a state of mind which results from a romantic attraction to another person and typically includes obsessive thoughts and fantasies and a desire to form or maintain a relationship with the object of love and have one’s feelings reciprocated.” Limerence is a new film that is raw, real, relatable and a true depiction of love and relationships in the current day and age. It exposes the flaws found no matter your level or love and relation. Whether it be friends of friends, close friends, couples, engaged couples or married couples, there are trials that all must face and the limerence that can occur from the participants in that relationship. Charming and full of characters of all different spirits, this clever film is outside of the box and a breath of fresh air when it comes to typical Hollywood romantic comedies. One will find themself relating to the characters and the stories that exemplify the more common “screw ups” rather than the fairytale endings.

Billboard

Set to premier in theaters next month (April 5), "Billboard" is a cinematic experience like no other. Commenting on the way we consume entertainment, news and life in general, Billboard shows the power of media. Whether it be radio, television, social media, a billboard, whatever, this film displays the effects of how words can be warped, how fake news can be born, and how the people can run with words taken out of context. A Must-See, the film takes place in the Allentown, Pennsylvania and follows an independent radio station that is trying to stay afloat. With a “Billboard Sitting Contest,” the station draws attention and advertisers to continue to exist. Soon after, the contest sours in the eyes of the public and becomes negative news, upsetting the community and it’s newfound followers. A satire, yet serious, this film exposes the ability for humans to come to conclusions without all of the needed information and the judgements that follow. An interesting look at the power of every medium for media and how they can effect society.

Behind The Bullet

Beyond powerful, "Behind The Bullet" is a documentary that follows four different stories of four different people who were at some point “behind the bullet.” From different backgrounds and parts of the map, the moral of all of their stories is very much the same: that immense regret and sorrow can follow can follow just one shot from a gun  and how that one shot can be so very life changing. In this political climate, and with many people fighting for and against gun control law, this film proves its importance  While gun control is far from the films focus, "Behind The Bullet" explores the humanity and the human interest stories that are derived from one's life after such an encounter with just one bullet. Gun safety and education break through as main messages, as well as the understating of how life altering just one shot can be. Having premiered earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival, this moving film is already one to be considered during next year's award season.

1 Billion Orgasms

Aaron is a man on a mission. A mission to provide happiness. And the most euphoric happiness at that.

1 Billion Orgasms follows this middle aged man living with his two daughters in Texas. As a science and engineering wiz, Aaron delivers a product that promises couples happiness in the form of orgasms, and more specifically, female ejaculation. He hits the road with a watch that is programmed to help people discover the sacred “G Spot” and achieve the ultimate orgasm. The documentary follows his journey of invention, the process to bring the watch to life and the delivery of the product to the public. Surprising and unsuspecting, the film is certainly an interesting one, addressing tabu topics and creating interesting viewpoints when sex and tech collide.
Having just been released on all DVD/VOD/Digital platforms, this explorative piece arrived just in    time for Valentine's Day.

5 Weddings

Creating a stir around the world, 5 Weddings is a film that explores Indian culture and Indian weddings. When an (half Indian) American journalist is assigned a project that requires traveling to India to review traditional wedding ceremonies, she finds herself intertwined in a world of what most people in  that part of the world deem as non-traditional. She wants to expose such components as Hijras, transgender dancers, but is faced with consequences with the government should she do so. The film, like it's main character, has been repressed and banned in many parts of the world due to the transgender subject. Still, informative, interesting and even with some humor at times, 5 Weddings is a must see love story that has you both thinking and cheering at the same time.

5 Weddings Deputed in  theaters on October 26, 2018. To lean more, see more and to view the 5 Weddings film, click here.
