To A More Perfect Union

Love is love. In this day and age it is quite common to see and hear this phrase. However, this country has made large strides in the past couple of decades in regards to gay rights, which in truth, are really just human rights. "To A More Perfect Union" is an important film that follows the court case of Edie Windsor, a historical case which helped to grant marriage rights to homosexuals.

Edie, who was very much at the forefront of this movement, has become an icon in the gay community and to the world. This informative film educates on the history of gay marriage rights and shares a sense of humanity among people that had been exiled from walking down the aisle for so long.

The film moves back and forth between summers 50 years apart. Three women of three different generations illustrate how times have changed as well as the strength and complexity of relationships. Revolving around an annual "girls weekend," this film is much deeper than a wine night flick. Whether gay or straight, the talented cast delivers a message about family that resonates and flips a sad tale into one that is heart-warming.
